The bomb was dropped on Hiroshima 63 years ago today, as a means to provoke Japan to surrender in World War II. Combined with the bomb on Nagasaki, 300,000 total died. Rememberance of this sad fact should take on extra poignance for us in this current environment of low-key and not-so-low-key sabre-rattling with regards to Iran, and for those who callously call for the use of nuclear weapons while being inevitably shielded from any consequence.
